Importance of 'Final Year Project' in engineer's life

According to Oxford, an 'ENginEER' is a skillful contriver or an originator. A person who devises new things, innovates and improves the quality of living using the skills he is trained in his four years of engineering college life. But do you really think does this definition apply to many of us today ?

Being an engineer, a thought always ponders in my mind . Are we, most of the engineering graduates today, able to truly call ourselves a true engineer? There is no need for you to give GATE or any other technical exam to test yourself as an engineer. But you have a real easy way to judge yourself by simply looking at your 'FINAL YEAR PROJECT'.

The ultimate test of all the skills you developed in 4 years is the final year project you take. For most of us its just a waste of time, a forceful endeavor, or just another obstacle in the way towards your degree. To few its like a commitment made to the four years they strived to make their identity. The casual attitude of todays engineer towards their projects is the big reason for the downfall of the quality of engineers produced today.

Moreover are the students only responsible for this degradation in the engineering attitude ? The answer is no. Usually the first stage of starting any project is to find a suitable person who can steer your project towards a success in a stipulated amount of time. This person is called the 'Guide' of your project. Ideal method to select a guide is to check if he has the necessary skills and command in the field your project is in. But now the scene is completely reverse. People chose their guides on the basis of the fact that 'the more linient and the lesser skillful the teacher be , the more he is preferred to as a guide'. And the story doesnt end here. Even such teachers who are of completely different fields come to judge students in their Project exams giving them another loop hole. Some guides give out ready made reports to their students to just copy and paste it so that he/she doesnt need to go through the details of the report. Some are more interested in formatting rather than the content. I mean formatting can even be done by a layman why you need to be an engineer ?? Cant they understand this simple thought? Anyway this is the main reason for the shift in the mentality of students, about the image of a guide.

The level of projects undertaken by grads have also fallen these days. The basic definition of engineer as a skillful contriver is slowly forgotten by many.

The friend zone

Love - this four letter word is one of the most complex things you can find in this world. Love can be in different forms between different people, it can have various significances and diverse meaning in different contexts. But the kind of love most of the young guys in their early 20's are worried about is that which happens between a guy and a girl.

Love can happen almost anywhere anytime. It can happen with a glimpse or after years of hard work and understanding. But dont be fooled by simplicity of the previous line, love is a stubborn bit*h that is hard to be tamed. There are many risks involved in the game of love. One fatal mistake that most of the guys are doomed to commit is being dragged into the "friend zone". Yeah you heard it right the"friend zone."

So whats the" Friend Zone" ??
Its the most absurd state of mind that a beautiful girl puts an innocent guy by taking for granted his feelings for her and considering him just a "good friend". Most common misconception is that love happens after friendship. No it doesnt. It just increases the level of frustration in a guy and decreases his self esteem. The girls very often use this as a tool to keep a bunch of poor love hungry guys near them and to manipulate them by just leaving them with the thought that they are her close friends. So in the end its the dude who is pawned by the dudette.

So what should one do to not to get into the friend zone ?
So what one should do eh!!! if i would have known then i wouldnt have written this post. I am still searching for an answer to this question. You do all things that a normal girlfriend boyfriend do, you share each second of day , you dont hide even the most private thoughts in your mind from each other . Still not able to accept the relation .

Feelings before Leaving college :(

Breaking the shell and unfurling its wing
4 Years past we entered Engineering
Unknown faces were we unknown cultures
every other thing appeared to be preying vultures

time passed by and people became familiar
The bond of friendship grew stronger year by year
learnt a lot from the company of some of the best
Some inspired others setting examples out of the rest

The 4 hostels were like 4 shrines
each had a different flavour like different wines
The unique birthday bashes colourful tv room
Different colored threads were binded together by this handloom

Finally reaching on the brink when we look back
we are responsible for where we are no one to sack
Profound thoughts emerge into this unstable nostalgic mind
Thinking of all beautiful memories, thinking how to bind.

The four years gave glimpses of all the phases of life
Some got glimpses of love, luckier ones found their wife
But above all is the relation of friendship that nurtured
Amongst all the feelings that some time or other ruptured

At present it feels like a mission accomplished
A dream come true a dream i wished
But the sadness overshadows the happy sun
When you know the deadline has arrived and you need to make the run
You need to leave back and you know you have reached the ends
You realize its time to leave back your beloved friends
suddenly everything small and big flashes back
You are left with no choice but to leave with all those sweet memories in a sack

Thus ends the story of an Engineers dilemma
This is not the end but the starting of a new cinema
Ahead is a life full of tasks to be endeavoured
But never forget these 4 years happily together we forever savoured
